DeclassifiedThe Conspiracy Library
Famous theories, the claim, the real story, and how deep the rabbit hole goes. For entertainment, curiosity and very suspicious party conversation.
Roswell & Area 51
- The Claim
- A flying saucer crashed near Roswell, New Mexico in 1947, and the government has been hiding alien bodies (and their tech) at Area 51 ever since.
- The Real Story
- In 1947 the Army first announced a “flying disc,” then said it was a weather balloon. Decades later the Air Force explained the debris came from Project Mogul, a classified balloon program for detecting Soviet nuclear tests. Area 51 is real: a secret test site where spy planes like the U-2 and A-12 were flown, which explains a lot of the strange lights people saw. The government finally acknowledged the base in 2013.
- Rabbit-Hole Rating
- ★★★★☆
- Party Pairing
- Read Area 51 by Annie Jacobsen (in our book list), then throw an alien-autopsy themed party.
Birds Aren’t Real
- The Claim
- Every bird is actually a government surveillance drone. That’s why they sit on power lines: they’re recharging.
- The Real Story
- “Birds Aren’t Real” is a deliberate parody movement started in 2017 to poke fun at how conspiracy theories spread. Its founder later confirmed it was satire. Birds are, in fact, real. Probably. (Our pigeons have declined to comment.)
- Rabbit-Hole Rating
- ★★★★★ (of satire)
- Party Pairing
- The perfect party theme: hand out “I Want to Believe” signs, then make everyone defend a bird theory in the free phone game.
